Altaro has released an update to its virtual machine (VM) backup solution for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to make it easier for them to provide a full-featured Backup as a Service (BaaS) offering.

Multi-tenant, centralized management and monitoring of customers’ storage use

Altaro VM Backup for MSPs already makes it simple for MSPs to provide centralized setup, monitoring, and management of their customers’ Hyper-V and VMware VM backups.

The latest release enables them to provide and bill for customers’ backup data storage as well as providing VM backup and recovery services.

Additionally, MSPs can manage and monitor all this through a single pane of glass through Altaro’s multi-tenant, easy-to-use online platform.

New functionality includes:

• Data backups storage and billing – MSPs can now opt to store customer backups to their servers or the cloud and charge for storage consumption.
• Reports on customers’ storage usage – Altaro now provides MSPs who offer backup storage on their servers with reports on backup health and storage usage per customer per month, as well as CSV reports and an API to enable integration with their billing system. This means that MSPs can monitor storage consumption and charge their customers based on the amount of storage they each use for backups per month.
• Centralized offsite server management – MSPs can host one or more offsite servers at their data center or on a public cloud and point their customers’ Altaro VM Backup installations to back up to it – and they can now centrally manage and monitor this through Altaro’s multi-tenant online platform.
